Greetings, travellers! I am writing this review to start off my blog due to the gut feeling that I did not do as well as I should have to sell that movie. A really fantastic send-off to beloved characters while also keeping it open for new ones, this movie will prove to most why James Gunn will be a fantastic choice for Superman: Legacy. Well-written characters delivered by stellar actors with jokes mostly hitting the mark leave everything feeling like these characters really fall into their own here. Particular highlights for me were Starlord and Drax, both feeling as though they came into their own in this movie. Nebula was probably the best-written, her character now completely different from the homicidal maniac from the first movie. The High Evolutionary is gut-churning in his appearance and acting, with Chukwudi Iwiji delivering a stone-cold turn as the character. Adam Warlock is slightly baby-ish in his nature, but his few scenes do legit make me wish for more. What really got me about this movie was the use of soundtrack and the emotion in the writing. Both are terrific and really show just how much Gunn loved these characters and getting the chance to work with them. The cinematography has been great throughout these movies and continues to sell the emotion. But, by God, the few action scenes they have are speckled with creativity and have a surpising amount of well-directed shots. It feels as though Gunn came into his own with this movie and is ready to move on to more mature themes and aspects of superheroes. So, be prepared when his Superman takes the world by storm, because this movie earns its score and sends the friggin' Guardians of the Galaxy off with a bang.
SCORE: 9/10
